MEET YOUR TEACHER

Perry Tsepetzis

Perry Tsepetzis is a Sydney-based bouzouki player and founder of Sydney Bouzouki Academy, with more than 15 years of professional experience spanning major concert stages, international recording projects and Greek music events across Australia.

He has performed with a range of prominent Greek singers, including Dimitris Basis and Vassilis Lekkas, and has worked extensively with George Doukas and the D Strings. His longstanding collaboration with Dimitris Basis began in 2017 and has seen him perform alongside the acclaimed singer on more than 30 occasions.

Perry has performed in every Australian state, appearing at venues including Sydney’s City Recital Hall, Melbourne Recital Centre, QPAC, Perth Concert Hall and the Enmore Theatre, as well as the Greek Festival of Sydney. His international work has taken him to Greece and Dubai, where he was invited to record for Expo 2020, contributing bouzouki to an official recording of the UAE national anthem.

His work also spans hundreds of weddings, live theatre, orchestral collaborations and studio recordings. Having achieved 100% in the performance component of his own HSC Music 1 examination, Perry has also taught and accompanied HSC Music 1 students, helping them develop their musicianship and prepare for assessed performances.

Through Sydney Bouzouki Academy, Perry brings this depth of experience into a personal, structured approach to teaching. Combining technique, repertoire, improvisation and Greek musical traditions, he helps students develop their own musical voice and the confidence to share it.

A FEW USEFUL ANSWERS

Before your first note.

Can I start with no musical experience?

Absolutely. You don’t need to read music or have played an instrument before. We’ll start with the basics and build at a pace that suits you.

Do I need to own a bouzouki?

You’ll need regular access to an instrument for practice. If you haven’t bought one yet, ask Perry for guidance before purchasing. Let us know in your enquiry so we can discuss your options.

Where and when are lessons held?

Sydney. Teaching location and available lesson times are confirmed with your enquiry before any booking or payment.

How much practice will I need?

A short, regular routine is more useful than an occasional long session. Many beginners start with 10–15 minutes on most days, adjusted to age and circumstances.

What if I already play?

Your introductory lesson helps identify your strengths and what you’d like to develop. We’ll choose a starting point that fits your experience.

Are lessons suitable for children?

Yes, where the child is interested and the instrument and lesson length are suitable. A parent or guardian should make the enquiry so we can discuss readiness and support at home.

How do payment and missed lessons work?

The introductory lesson is paid separately. Ongoing enrolment is for the remaining teaching term, paid upfront or in two scheduled instalments. Lesson dates, cancellation and make-up arrangements are confirmed in writing before you enrol.
